Where do you think the Balkanization attitude against Houston annexation came from? There are plenty of native Dallasites who live there due to their jobs but want to remain close to their family and way of life.

Way of life? The way of life in Houston and Dallas are almost exactly the same.

If I recall correctly, he once said Dallasites don't like yoga or dancing because it's devil worship to them. Something along those lines.

Venezuela is not practicing any system, just a nation that is subject to the whims of the president and government; despotism would probably be the best description. I don't understand why "conservative" Americans insist on calling what is going on in Venezuela socialism; what would you call the system in Denmark or Sweden?

This all boils down to the oil industry IMO. The oil industry is heavily Republican not necessarily for social reasons, but they dont like regulations, taxes, and any mention of global warming.

Dallas isnt an oil city.
What stats do you have that back this up?

This isn't new. Houston has historically been the more liberal and libertarian (there's a difference between libertarians and republicans) city. DFW has been catching up because of the influx of Californians from recent corporate relocations. You can look back at Montrose history or why Pacifica (liberal/progressive radio) came to Houston when only NYC, SF (Berkeley), and LA had stations.

If anything, the energy industry brought more diversity to Houston earlier before DFW started to become more diverse. There may be a lot of Republicans in the industry but also a lot of libertarians and more left-leaning folks in recent years.

The fact that Trump got 51.3% of the Dallas area's vote and Dallas is 50% White while Trump has 48.5% of Houston's vote and Houston metro area is only 37% White.
https://www.citylab.com/equity/2016/...-voted/508313/
That means Trump is eating up either a large chunk of the minority vote or an even larger chunk of the white vote. Either way if Houston was voting demographically the same as Dallas, Fort Bend would have stopped voting republican back in 2000 let alone just last election.

And the United States practices pure capitalism?

Using Venezuela as the prime example for "socialism" is like using the Dominican Republic as the prime example for capitalism. It's pretty obvious when people are just trying to push their agendas.
