I knew a gal from Chicago who thought it was so funny when I said I was fixin to go somewhere, or fixin to do something. I finally had to ask her what was so funny about it. To me, it simply meant I was going somewhere or going to do something right then or in the pretty near future. She said fixin' meant to repair something. I told her, I KNOW that! LOL, guess I'm "repairing" to go to the store.
She also seemed to get a big kick out of when I said something was just over yonder, or about so far as (X number of miles) as the crow flies.
As a matter of fact, thinking back on it, my everyday way of talking seemed to be quite a source of entertainment/amusement for some of the northern folks who had relocated down here. I've lost touch with most of them, but wonder if any of this Texan tawk has rubbed off on them yet?

fixin' to and ya'll is about as far as my Texas goes. I was born and raised in Dallas, but my parents are transplants so I never picked up the accent.
