Who lightly taps their brakes twice or three times on the freeway? I do when I see a cop ahead at night.

What gets me are the people that slow down to 10 mph UNDER the speed limit when they see a police/sheriff/highway patrol car. Why? You don't get a ticket FOR GOING THE SPEED LIMIT.

That was the only time I have ever seen that in NM!
Lol! That Carrizozo highway is just about as desolate as it was in 1968 when I first drove it.

About the only time I flash my headlights on the road is to let a passing semi truck and trailer know he has cleared me and can move back into the right lane. Some older drivers seem to still know what it means. That's another traffic tradition that seems to be disappearing but one I always appreciated the short time I drove.

I didn't slow down when I saw highway patrol once (cuz I was going 62 in a 60) even though everyone else dropped to 50, and SHE DID PULL ME OVER.

I was like WTF?!

She said, "You were going 71." I was like, "BULL!" I pointed out to her the lovely heads-up display I have that is IN MY FACE so I know exactly how fast I am going all the time. She then said, "Ok, 65." I just looked at her. Then she 'let me go' with a warning.

Irony was that 2 months later, that same road went to 70mph speed limit.

-----

Then, one holiday weekend, I was driving at night home from work at around 1am. And obviously, they were looking for drunk drivers. So when I AGAIN didn't slow down when the 5.0 was on the side of the road, guy takes off after me and pulls me over. And I wasn't speeding! Did he think I was drunk because I didn't slam on my brakes when I saw him like everyone else did?!

I also learned that from my Daddy and I still practiced it as well.

Too much real life. Cops don't like the smarter ones.

This is one that I do, too. Learned it at my Daddy's knee (well, hanging over the back of the bench seat in the Hudson while he was driving).

texas lady, maybe you might remember this?... But was the "light flasher" a button that was on the driver's side floorboard pressed by foot in years' past (1970s) that was on the upper left side?

Yep, I remember that. Was really confused for a bit the first time I saw one that wasn't - kept trying to use the non-existent floor button. Also drove a standard for the first 25 years of my driving life, starting with a Ford Taunus (German car), then an MGB. It took 25 years for them to come up with an automatic that shifted when I thought it should!

I do. I also remember when there was a starter button on the floor board and you had to "step on the starter."
