Default Yes, Texas can be the placee for you.

Howdy,,
Right now, and in the forseeable future, Texas has many great job opportunities. I don't know where someone got their info. that "unemployment is high". For a young person who is willing to work hard and not depend on the government to do everything for them, Texas might be the place for you.

Texas has always been known for having a lower pay scale than other statesin some fields. A lot of it has to do with the cost of living. Collegetowns definitely pay less as there is always an abundance of available people.

The thing to remember is that you can make is a expensive or inexpensive tolive as you want. You will probably find better pay jobs in the largercities, but then you will find it cost more to live in them. I am a firmbeliever that we get out of a situation what we put into it. We can makeit a good or bad as we want.

If it is true what you said in your edit then you will make it wherever youlive. You will be able to eat healthy and keep fit wherever youchoose. Be sure to check out Austin, the state capitol, and the area thatis known at the Texas Hill Country. That would include Fredericksburg andthe surrounding areas.

I would suggest, if possible, you do an excursion visiting some of the areasthat interest you and see if any of them look like a fit. I was born and raisedin Houston and now live at the bottom of the state in what is called the RioGrande Valley. I live in an RV resort about three miles fromthe Mexican border. I am now what we call a “Winter Texan,” I livehere in the winter and travel north for the summer, where I live on thenorthern shore of Lake Michigan on the U.P. of Michigan.

The Texas State Historical Association has what they call The Handbook ofTexas Online. It is a great place toread and learn about anything or any place in Texas. It is well written andunbiased. I recommend it to anyone wholoves to read and learn about Texas. Iuse it as a reference quite a bit. You can find it at http://www.tshaonline.org/handbook

Lowest 5 unemployment rates in TX right now:

Midland, TX - 2.8%
Odessa, TX - 3.4%
Amarillo, TX - 4.0%
Lubbock, TX - 4.3%
Abilene, TX - 4.4%

All of those are in the western part of the state. As someone mentioned earlier, cost of living is a bit higher in Midland/Odessa right now. Amarillo, Lubbock, and Abilene are all good cities, if you don't mind being in a mid-sized city. (Metro areas ranging from ~170k in Abilene to ~290k in Lubbock)
