So, it sounds like the majority of the population is from the Abilene area, or at least from Texas.

Yeah, most people that live here are from Abilene or some other place in Texas. There are a few people here and there that get out of the military and stay here. It's usually and air force guy that marries a local girl. I know a few couples that have done that. That's how my own parents ended up here back in the 60's as well (my dad is originally from the Midwest)

My husband once worked there and the majority of people are really obnoxious christian-types who's first words when they meet you are "where do you go to church?". Gag! I'm afraid I wouldn't last two hours there. But to each his own!

Yep! That's how I got there. My dad retired from the air force at Carswell, mid-50's and took a civil service at Dyess. I was 8 years old at the time. I never saw a civilian doctor before I was 21. Went to Abilene schools thru high school and some at McMurry.

Met a gal at Mack's one Saturday afternoon... (Mack's being the hot spot in town for sodas and socials), later married her and moved to Houston.

Made the trip to Abilene for the next 35 years to visit mom. She's moved on as well but no more visitations. To Abilene or mom.

My wife and I moved to Abilene in 1981. We have found it to be a great city to live in. There are many things to do if you look for them. We have everything we need here. Several population centers are within a three or four hour drive (You can hit the edge of the Metroplex in 2 hours or 2 1/2 depending on where you live in Abilene). Cost of living is cheap. Houses are inexpensive. Traffic is light. Schools are good. We have been very happy here.

The apartments on the Southwest side of town look a little nicer than some of the other areas. The ones on the Southeast/ south of ACU look pretty good for the price. How is that area?

There's nothing wrong with that area. I've known some people that lived in the vicinity of ACU. The only problem is that those complexes will be filled with college students. If you don't mind the frequent parties and the noise you'll be okay with it. I knew a single guy that lived over there and loved it because of the all the college girls hanging out at the pool....lol. If the frequent parties and noise would bother you, go to the southwest side.

I played little league at Sears Park.

I sometimes wondered if there was any significance to Impact being so near the baptist university...
