Reading a ad from Food City and they have cafeteira in them. Sound like the up scale Publix's around Atlanta..

Food City's close, but not like Publix. It's similar, but it's not that upscale – we don't really have that kind of clientele outside of the big 3. I dunno what kind of Winn-Dixies you have there, but when they still were open here, they were kinda dirty. Definitely not like that.

Yes. They run the gamut. I've been in Food City's that were new, clean and had excellent fresh food, etc. I've been in some Food City's that looked like a very bad, about to close Winn-Dixie. I guess it depends on the manager.

Yeah the brand new Food City stores are nice, but they're not really like Publix, and they pale in comparison to the more luxurious Publix locations in Atlanta. When Food City took over old Bi-Lo stores in Knoxville, the quality dropped like a brick compared to Bi-Lo. Food City has some nice things, but its bakery can't compare to Publix or Bi-Lo, and the Food City deli is nothing to write home about, either.

As far as the Food City cafeteria goes, Publix restaurants knock their socks off, in particular the Publix made-to-order subs.

I couldn't buy flank steak or lamb chops in my Food City last week. Plus, all of the supermarkets around here (Kroger, Food City, Food Lion, Wal-Mart) now have the annoying habit of trimming all of the fat off all of the meat like we're all two year olds. Can we not do that ourselves? Or, if that's how you want the meat, can you not ask the butcher to do it for you? I kept hearing the Pork industry lamenting (last year) that people were buying less pork due to the erroneous assumption that it was related to swine flu. I wanted to contact them and say, ""No, we're buying less because the butchers make it unappealing to cook/barbecue/fry/bake the pork." This has only happened within the last 2 years with all of the meat.

I'm also noticing less well-stocked shelves in Food City. Not sure if that's the manager's fault or it's Food City wide.

We have Publix and Winn-Dixie in South Florida. Publix definitely has better layout/selection, but their prices are high, so you have to shop and buy when they have buy one/get one free.

Winn-Dixie is annoying with their shopping cards, which I guess alot of retailers are adopting (like Kroger). Can't we just go to the grocery store, have a nice selection, good prices without having the hassle of a shopping card? It's not like you really are saving money, they just raise the shelf price and the discount card provides you the price you should pay anyways.

I agree. I don't have the card, so I always whine at the checkout, and the cashier takes off the discount anyway. Evidently they can just hit "card discount" without actually having a card, and it still works. At least at Food City, anyway.

That's another reason I like Publix. They don't have those annoying shopping cards.

Jabo, you must be able to smooth-talk people more than me. I've been to Food City before without my card, and the cashier didn't give me the discount. grrrrrrr
