Couple of quick shots from the top of Bear Knob yesterday. Trees are exploding, fields are going green and the valley was alive.

Top of the Westfork valley, looking towards Monterey, TN and the Sunk Cane.

Middle Westfork valley, looking down at an old barn in the Shilo community (a village with less folks)

Looking north to the mouth of the Westfork valley towards Kentucky and where the East and West forks of the Obey meet Dale Hollow lake. To the left would be Livingston, to the right would be Jamestown, and directly below would be Allred and Alpine, TN. This is the western escarpment of the Cumberland Plateau meets the western slope of Middle TN.

Default Bristol photos

I took these today (4-9-08) when it was 78°. Remember the late freeze last year? At this time last year, ALL of these trees in the first photo were full of leaves on April 5th and by the 10th, they had all frozen out! (SEE LAST PHOTO) They have been slower this year, thanks to a cooler late March and hopefully we will not see a destroying freeze like last April! Some areas in town are much more green than this... most trees in my area are "later leafing" trees". The Elms, early Oaks, Willows are all out nice now.

By the end of April, all of these trees are typically full of leaves and lush....

THIS was about a year ago... (note the destroyed foliage... thanks to THREE nights in the lower 20s that week!)

Isn't it a treat to see some green on the trees that were masses of white/grey in photos taken since the end of Fall foliage? I can't wait to see what Fall Creek Falls looks like when we have the City Data picnic just to see the change from a few weeks ago.

Here are a few from Kingsport today.

I have no idea what this is, but I thought it was interesting. Kind of looks like hands on the top.
