Chattanooga is a short drive away. Dunlap has grown a bit and depending on what you are used too, is a pretty adequate place to shop in general. It has a good small town atmosphere and quality of life, if you like to avoid the perils of urban living as I do

Flooding and stray dogs are an issue. Dunlap is not pedestrian friendly. Beautiful valley but limited beyond "slow"

Hatsson, would you mind elaborating on what you mean by "slow"? I am working with a committee to "update" our small town. We have grown tremendously in the past several years and the citizens are working together to set goals and city priorities for the next five years so your opinion means a lot to me.

Default What's the latest in Dunlap?

Looking for any info regarding whether or not Dunlap would be considered a good place to retire. Is now the time to buy some land? How about folks coming up from FL? Are there many buying up land and driving up prices? Any particular places in the valley that stand out? Thanks!

Default New Walmart

G: Most of the above info is valid. There is a new Walmart that opened a few months ago. This is rural farm land and people own many acres. Yes people from all over the country like way out space to shoot guns/hunt., Or ride ATV.
If years ago auction tracts were $1,00 / acre and now maybe $3,000/acre not sure if that Is Driving your value. The lumber co's (Bowater) have been selling Large tracts, both to state and anyplace, so the variety supply may not be there in future years.?

Be careful when buying land in Dunlap and Sequatchee County. Most acerage is sold without mineral rights. Consequently , as "rock and stone" become more valuable as a building material , the minrial rights owners are claiming the rock and the results are distroyed land that you thought you owned. Mired in the courts right now as the powers that be detrmine the menaing of mineril and if it appies to rock. In the meantime the rock gets hauled out.

Sorry for the delay in responding. I too have attended the 5 year joint meeting of the Economic Developement and chamber and was encouraged by the input by the citizens to the needs. However, contrary to those ideas of interest the elected officials ,by in large, don't give any indication of having the motivation or knowledge to know how to implement them.

Slow in my reference refers to the deterioration of the downtown area and the apparent lack of understanding by the local leaders to curb it or create a program to revitalize it and why that's important.

Slow is waiting for Walmart to solve all the ecomonic problems when in fact the sales tax revenue generated by the Walmart doesn't even cover the cost the city has to pay to increase the services necessary to have a Walmart...the police; utilities; roads and traffic.

Slow refers to the city officials implementing ordinanaces and zoning codes in order to receive grants and having no idea what they encumber and consequently when they conflict with way of life , as they know it, they just ignore the ordinance. Which of course is illigal even if you are slow.

Slow refers to the indiffence to the stray animal problem. The impact it has on the people and the impact it will have on others who may consider to relocate here.

Slow refers to the lack of opportunity for the youth of Dunlap to have any meaningful opportunity to return to Dunlap after school in any disclipline that is in sync with " information arena " that is the industry of today.

Slow won't impact me personally. It will impact the chance of my children or grandchildren ever making this home. While the valley is beautiful and the mountain view are spectacular ( if you don't happen to live near a " been dumping there all my life" area) it has nothing to challange them.

Slow and satisfied maybe a better discription.
