Danger Is Creeping Into South Tampa

This is scary, if true.

That is scary my dear friends live in palma ceia . Is that not south tampa ? if so then I am scared for them they are often out after dark with friends and family usually in big groups but what about if they happen to be just walking with the dogs ? they have huge dogs though but still worried for them . gosh I hope this was just a random occurance and not the norm . that is such a nice area and not usually known for a lot of crime .

Well, stuff happens EVERYWHERE, even in the best of neighborhoods, always has. Bad stuff has been happening in great neighborhoods here in Sarasota, too. There is nowhere that is 100% safe. Too many drugs and gangs around, and they have infiltrated even upscale cities in California like Santa Barbara.

One just needs to be aware of their surroundings, lock windows and doors of their homes and vehicles, etc. We can't just all live in fear.

I guess I thought South Tampa was pretty insulated from crime...but you are right stuff happens everywhere.

So some kids throw bottles at a woman and threaten to rape her, but then run away, and that's a "crime wave" in South Tampa? OooooK.

That article was from 05/08 and not a recent incident. No place is 100% safe now a days. My SIL lives very close to there and she has never had a problem. She often comes home after 1 AM from work.

funny this came up last year on the Forums..the article is from May of '08, and how does anywhere in this country isolate itself from Crime? Look what happened in the city of Binghampton, NY last week....now thats scary!

Just a bunch of bored kids. I've walked through that area after midnight many times; in fact, I think I walked through there last weekend. The two main crimes for that area are kids spraypainting the Crosstown overpass and kids loitering at Britton Plaza. We certainly don't need neighborhood police patrols.

I just noticed that it's from 2008; why would the Tribune put it on its Web site now? That is weird.
