Every state has a pest problem that can be dealt with. Will say some states are more prone to numerous pests due to way larger populations. As for florida the gekkos do a great job and for palmetto bugs you use steel wool and pack around the pipes coming into the house under sinks.Home Defense spray works for around the outside areas and a powder called boric acid and very cheap can be used inside and out as a deterrant. These last two mentioned creates a barrier and pests dont want to cross it.

You should keep in mind where that poster also claims low lives and "riff raff" live... Such as South Tampa.

excuse me but I do own my own home and I have pest control. Yet I still have gnats hanging around my front door. I also have some geckos, but they aren't eating enough of them. I have read that birds love bugs. So I have put out feeders to attract the birds that will hopefully eat these pests as well. And I lived in an apartment for many years, all kinds of folks live in apartments, so kindly get over yourself.

If you are retiring it is likely that you are retirement age. Don't overlook 55+ communities, rentals are available in some and you will be able to socialize with your contemporaries. If you don't like it, that is why you are renting.

We lived in Arizona for a time, flies were a nuisance and coyotes wandered the streets. We returned to Florida.

Once a month I spray for bugs with an off the shelf bug spray. That handles it.
