I don't believe most people would see what I post as non-stop negative. If you go back and read what I've written about Spring Hill, I have had some positive things to say about it, but I am also honest enough to point out the problems. I don't think any of the information I've given is "whacked out."

Anyway, my time is now going to be limited on here because life calls! I won't have as much time to get into the Spring Hill "debate", so I will limit my responses to people needing info on places to live or schools.

Here is what the County says about the small beach, coarse sand and bacteria:

"The beach is clean, the sand is white, and the water is gentle. The waves are not huge and shallow depths make swimming or wading ideal for all ages. There are several sheltered pavilions with picnic tables, barbecue grills, volleyball courts, a large playground, and restrooms. There is also a concession stand which offers a variety of food, drinks, and snacks. Alcoholic beverages are prohibited and pets have to stay home (except for service animals).

Locals and tourists alike enjoy the peaceful, laid-back atmosphere and escaping the loud and boisterous crowds of the larger beaches in Florida. It has a quaint, remote, country-like setting. The last five miles of the drive to Pine Island Beach is lined with palm trees, wetlands, and stilt homes. With water along both sides of the road, the drive includes sightings of countless wading birds, shorebirds, and waterfowl in a tropical setting filled with exotic wildlife and mangroves. Deer, alligators, turtles, and other animals can sometimes be spotted crossing the road too!"

FYI: The water there is regularly tested for bacteria.

You paint Spring Hill like it is some dumping grounds for humanity when it is far from that.
When I present facts, like the medical care situation, you just come back with some other
negative comments on something else.

You're just upset because you took a loss here and you cant deal with real people. Plastic people dont do well anywhere except in plastic places.

Oh yes, not close to the main beaches which are in Pinellas County on the barrier islands.
Hernando is the "nature coast". It has a whole different kind of "wildlife".

Its about an hour to clearwater beach.

The commute south isnt that bad. Boring, yes. On the Suncoast you are at the airport in 45 mins from Spring Hill. You can get into Tampa by taking US 41 due south. US 19 will get you into Pineallas.
With the improvements on US 19 especially closer to Clearwater the commute will be more enjoyable.
Its just the volume of traffic with people going to the Tampa area for their jobs every day. When I was working of Tarpon Springs (19 and Klosterman) I'd get in the middle lane here in Spring Hill and stay in it all the way down.

The demographics keep changing with the senior crowd dying off and not really be replaced.
Shopping is very good and much than than just the "big box" stores which we have one of each major brand now, but many national brands as well. Businesses keep coming. A new shopping center is being built at Mariner and Cortez which will be home to several major brand stores.

Seems that many younger families have come here in the past 5-8 years with a bit of a slowdown in the 08-12 period. Foreclosed homes were a bit hit during the recession. Mostly 2nd homes owned by snowbirds and those who bought in the boom days and decided to walk away when prices dropped and are now coming to correction with the market priced more like the 1990's.

The employment picture has gotten better as the area grows. Recent job growth is Positive. Hernando County jobs have Increased by 3.13 percent. Since 2000, the county has had a population growth of 32.10 percent.

The median home cost in Hernando County is $96,000. Home appreciation the last year has been 11.10 percent.
--------------------

Compared to the rest of the country, Hernando County's cost of living is 14.70% Lower than the U.S. average.
--------------------

Hernando County public schools spend $10,528 per student. The average school expenditure in the U.S. is $12,435. There are about 15 students per teacher in Hernando County.
--------------------

The unemployment rate in Hernando County is 7.60 percent(U.S. avg. is 6.30%). Recent job growth is Positive. Hernando County jobs have Increased by 3.13 percent.

Living here is not for everybody, but if you want to avoid the congestion and density of metro areas

Could you elaborate on the types of jobs in Spring Hill and what types of jobs are coming to Hernando County during this upswing? Unemployment numbers can be kind of misleading if they're mostly low paying service jobs. I understand the cost of living is low in Spring Hill, but could someone making $8-9 an hour at Walmart or some other retail, fast food job survive without assistants? Are these low paying service jobs propping up a not so great unemployment Number?

There are plenty of medical jobs as well. It's disingenuous to attempt to paint a picture that there are only low-end entry-level jobs.

My wife transferred her nursing license from PA to FL when we moved, so we get calls constantly from headhunters, etc. She's back in school getting her BSN because she's done with "regular" nursing, so to speak. But if she wanted to, she could start working tomorrow. She's got over 20 years of specialized nursing experience and doesn't come cheap.

Our niece, also an RN was down here for a visit and made some casual inquiries because she's considering a move and got more than a few on-the-spot job offers. They aren't necessarily coming to Spring Hill but she checked out some hospitals in both Hernando and Pasco.
