The problem? It's very expensive here and also my parents relocated to Spring Hill. We have two children and no family nearby so it's kind-of us by ourselves and only visiting my parents twice per year. This makes practical aspects difficult, like sick days for the kids and working, babysitting emergencies, and basic things like spending time with family. DH and I went to USF so we know the area well, and DH grew up in St. Petersburg. I'm okay with the area (not thrilled but I know it would probably be pretty good for our situation and our family). If we move for the financial and family benefits, I will personally have to find ways to tolerate the heat again. While growing up in S. FL I didn't mind the heat so much but being outside in 80-90 degree weather most of the year just drains me every time I visit now. After leaving the house even for 10 min I'm looking for ways to return inside.
Will I get used to it again or any tips on tolerating it? TIA!
If you hated the heat and humidity back in your college days its going to be even tougher now that you are older, also theres no beach of any consequence near SpringHill unless you consider that tiny spit of sand at Pine Island, granted you can get a nice place in the area but you will end up paying a high cost for A/C.
Tolerating heat is something that is personal ,you either tolerate it or you dont.I couldnt tolerate it and early in life moved to Canada.

Four years later, I think they made their decision.

I don't know. Traveling all over the world and my own country. Have been in about 10 different states this summer and each and every one have better drivers and friendlier people than creatins from Florida. Denver is another odd place, imo. I was there last month. It appears grungy and lots of homeless. Colorado Spring, spent a week there last month, much nicer place, friendly people. Tampa Bay area and a lot of other areas of FL is filled w/ transplants, many from NY. Very poor sense of community, imo.

Default You get used to it ...

I've lived here for 29 years. The Tampa Bay Area is a nice place to live, but it's crowded and the traffic gets heavier. Yes, it's hot and humid, but cars and homes are air conditioned. The cost of living is about equal to other non-urban parts of the country. Another plus is that Florida has no income tax. Only five states can say that. If you're looking for sophisticated Broadway type plays, classical music concerts, et.all, there are very few venues. mod edit:racist comments.

And let's not forget the Florida is not unique in having hot and humid weather in August.
I'm in Europe at the moment where many of the temperatures are hitting 40-43c this week.
Just back from a long weekend in Barcelona.Toasty !

The heat is one of the reasons we moved back to Michigan,to darn hot in Florida after living there for over 6 years. I'm a native Michigander I miss the seasons you can dress for the cold but not for the heat. Plus the wife got a way better paying job here with great medical benefits, that's something Florida doesn't have. And we have great beaches along the Great Lakes. For us Florida is a nice place to visit but not to live. The metro Detroit area is starting to boom again with amazon announcing the building of 2 more huge distribution centers on top of the one they just opened, and more top tier automotive suppliers building new plants around here and Ford and Chrysler revamping 3 assembly plants for new vehicles to be built here. Florida could use more manufacturing jobs.

They take siestas in Spain to combat the heat and keep them in good spirits.
