This is why we need some sort of compromise between Gun Control and the 2nd amendment.

I don't think those people acquired their guns via proper procedures. Having more strict rules for getting permit for the guns will not reduce incidents like this, just like banning alcohol in 20s did not do much to curb the consumption or having ban on drugs now. It is a bad situation but i don't think there is a quick fix for that.

What do you mean? We don't know anything about how he got his gun. Probably got it illegally if he was a felon already. So the gun control laws would not have prevented this.

Well, they were serving a Warrant for a MURDER charge, which as far as I know is ALREADY against the law! Point being.....a Lawbreaker does not care about the Laws!!

Agreed. Criminals do not care what the law is.

I'm wondering what this guy was doing out walking around? Prior convictions include sexual battery, imprisonment of a child, assault on an officer, and possibly more. He should have been locked up for life. The failure of our prison system might be a better debate than gun control in this case, which has nothing to do with it.

Get real, guns are already out there and not going away any time soon. Banning them makes as much sense as alcohol prohibition or drug prohibition. Those ideas sure worked well did they not? Gun control should be known by its actual name of fascism. Police get shot, it is a hazard of the job. People die in coal mines, on farms and in construction all the time. In fact I think more die in farming than working as police officers. Stop the hero worship, police officers are humans like the rest of us. In fact, all the officers I know support the second amendment. Criminals and crazies will get hold of a gun or other weapons regardless of any laws. Blame the legal system for endangering police officers with stupid laws like drug prohibition and with poor administration of justice that imprisons the innocent while allowing violent offenders to roam the streets. No more laws, we have too many already!

According to the 1997 Survey of State Prison Inmates, among those possessing a gun, the source of the gun was from -

* a flea market or gun show for fewer than 2%
* a retail store or pawnshop for about 12%
* family, friends, a street buy, or an illegal source (probably theft) for 80%

Condolences to the families and fellow officers of the fine gentlemen who were murdered. What a shame that we have such evil people in our society.
