So I've read alot of these threads and I'm looking for the real story on the Tampa and St. Petersburg area. Let me in on the real deal, the facts, the economy, and all that. Looking to relocate to Florida prefer one of the 2 areas mentioned but not set in stone. Owners of a tattoo shop looking to continue working this business once we arrive. Traffic and drive time not a huge concern, would like nice schooling for elementary - middle school aged children, and reasonable housing 1200/mo. or less, don't want to worry about getting raped or robbed when out of the house. We're leaving our current location due to economy crash so we are looking for the most busy, money moving area we can find. So tell me what's good?

So are you more concerned with finding the right spot for a shop or where to live?

We are moving to Florida for sure, my concern is finding just the right location in Florida. So I guess it's finding the right spot for both

I lived in St Pete for 5 years....enjoyed it very much but Tampa is definitly a lot busier in reguards to work. There are a lot of nice areas to live in both areas. It just depends on how much you want to spend on living and on your shop. Remember Tampa has the University of South Florida and the University of Tampa so it is busier for business. Hope this can help out some! Good Luck!!

You might check out the beach communities as well. Treasure Island, St. Pete Beach or Pass-A-Grille Beach would provide some good consistent traffic for your business. The nearby city of Seminole has a tradition of excellent schools, of being a safe place to live and also offering affordable housing.

I just moved to Tampa from Michigan. Where are you from in Michigan? My wife and I already had jobs in place, but to be honest, I don't see the economy in Florida being any better than Michigan.

'the most busy, money moving area'
I don't know about that. If you're skilled and resourceful you can make it anywhere (depending on econ factos) but Tampa isn't a 'big business' spot.
In general, sunshine and tourism is Florida's bread and butter...
Small business? I don't know...
I'm no longer a Floridian so I'm out of the loop. I don't know the local climate.

I would agree...
I left the state in 08 (i think). Still have friends there but they're making it due to being educated and 'corporate'.
From what I understand, it still isnt much better...

I just get a little worried for the folks trying to relocate without a plan...
Too many folks like that. To be honest, I love Florida. Idont' care too much for most Tampa natives but Tampa/St Pete is definitely an area for the 'young, single and frisky' - but even I am hesitant to relocate.
Definitely wouldn't do it unless I had a job lined up, a high-demand occupation where a job is guaranteed, a DEGREE...or someone to shack up with while conducting a job search.
