We will be moving to the St. Louis area this summer and I am hoping you all can recommend a gym or two I should look into that has a good indoor track. Looking for one that has a minimum of 8 - 12 laps per mile. I've researched some of the YMCAs around there and many of have over 16 laps per mile. Yikes! I understand that Lifetime Fitness does not have one. I love to run outside but with the everchanging weather in STL and I also young children who need to be in a childwatch area, I really need to have a gym that has a good track for some of my daily runs. I can not do treadmills. No matter how many times I try, I can't do them. Must be a mental thing.

I belong to a beautiful YMCA where we have a running group who runs outside twice a week while I children are in the childwatch area playing. When the weather is icky (which isn't often) we run on the indoor track which only has 8 laps per mile and it is wonderful! Hoping to find something similar in STL.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Props on this one. We received a free membership after running in a few 5Ks sponsored by them (Des Peres Dash). Very nice.

I will check those places out! Thanks for the help! Don't know where we will be living yet. We will be moving there in the next two months. Really like the Kirkwood area best. And like Chesterfield and surrounding areas too.

I am a member of the YMCA Carondolet Rec Plex and really enjoy it. It is brand new (opened Nov 09) and offers many amenities. I have walked the track several time and believe its around 12 laps per mile. I can't remember! I like this track compared to others I've used because there are several sets of windows and a view looking down over the gyms, and equipment area as well as the entrance and sitting area. I am a people watcher and it makes it more interesting to walk where the scenery changes around each corner and there is a lot of activity. Also if you decided you want an outdoor track, just across the street is Carondolet Park where a lap is 1.75 miles.
