You may also look into Hermann, which is another absolutely beautiful river town with a thriving tourism industry. Hermann feels very sleepy and historic. It's one of my favorite small towns.

I've heard that Hermann has a big Octoberfest.

Does Washington have anything like that? Just some kind of large celebration that draws in all kinds of new people?

Washington has a few festivals downtown, nothing on the scale of Hermann's Oktoberfest.

Washington has a great building stock, with some nice new construction happening downtown, With a river view!!-

God, Missouri, especially the Missouri River Valley, is just such a beautiful place. Currently I live in Central Texas, and let me tell you, it's not incredibly impressive.
