Do you have any personal experiences you would like to share?
Seen a lot of fights there. One time I witnessed a gang of young urban youth beating a man with baseball bats. Roughly 50% of the time I walked to the train I was propositioned to buy drugs. Thankfully I've never been a victim of crime myself.

^The beating story is absolutely awful. I hope you called the police. Do you look like someone who would buy drugs? I've never experienced anything like that, and have gotten on and off at that stop probably a dozen times in the last 4 years. Not a lot obviously, but obviously I don't live in St. Louis. Curious to hear if anyone else has a story even vaguely similar?? A friend of mine lived right over there, but I don't think she took the metro all that often, and she liked the area very well.

Hey, I've been asked if I wanted to buy drugs one day at the Clayton Metrolink station at about 8:00am. I considered it almost a complement like being carded at the grocery store! ("Wow, I look hip enough to be someone who would use drugs?") I don't think anyone would consider the Clayton Metrolink station to be "sketchy" so just because someone asks you if you want to buy drugs somewhere I don't consider it a big deal these days. You just say "no, thanks" and they move on and ask the next person.

That sucks. Sadly, in my experience with the MetroLink, I've seen a whole lot of people that I can only assume have a mental illness or something--no crime. The worst was some lady who walked up and down the train screaming about how she hated white men, and how they've raped her, and all this stuff. Funny enough, the only time I've been a victim of crime was on a commuter train in the far north Chicago suburbs. It was the last train out of Chicago, so late at night, but still...I'm still slightly amused that I rode the MetroLink daily in the most dangerous city in America () yet the one time I get a weapon pulled on me, I'm on a commuter train 35 miles from Chicago.

So you see some shady people on public transit. Big deal. It's the nature of the beast and you see that in all cities. It certainly doesn't mean you'll be attacked.

When did we become a society of intolerant wimps who are too scared to travel on the same train as some who looks shady? And does it really bother you that much to be asked for change or propositioned for drugs? Just say no and keep on walking and don't let it ruin your day. Better yet, wear headphones or act like you're on the phone and usually they'll leave you alone.

Yeah, after riding the public transit in NYC, London, Paris, San Francisco and Chicago, it really made me realize how nice and clean the metro is.

I don't know.... I've been on the Metro now half dozen times. One time, someone asked me for money because she claimed she was thirsty. (for water) That's about all I have. I am rather surprised about the Debaliviere station, as I have witnessed it up close and personal, and would have never suspected such activity.

IMO, the metro is clean and safe compared to other transit systems.
