Isn't city = urban?

I found Springfield quite diverse and welcoming as well.
It was diverse enough to have its own brand of Springfield Chinese food. Even CA can't claim that! (OMG)
MOSouthernMan must be disappointed. Maybe he gotta pack up and leave for the deep South. Maybe MS..

Yes it is. I goofed. MOSouthernMan has been banned until he comes back with another handle, which he will, no doubt.

Your first post was all about the South so you kind of gave yourself away - again.

Branson is protestant, has southern linguistics, mild climate, ancestory and southern food.

Des Moines has NONE of that. Also IA does not have a star on the confederate flag or were they a slave state.

Even by the people on here from MO who are really anti southern will disagree with you about the southern quarter of Missouri.
So not true in some ways. It snows regularly in Branson. You folks, compared to Macon, don't do "real" barbecue. Your ancestry came from both northern and southern borderlands, different than Macon.

And Des Moines has Protestants, too. More Methodists and Lutherans, and fewer Baptists, to be sure.

That said, per the start of the thread ... race relations ... maybe you ARE "deep South" in that case?

Default Slicing race relations both ways?

First, not sure what "acting white" is. Is it driving a dually with fake bull nuts hanging from the back bumper/trailer hitch?

Second, imagine if a black person said "I like white people as long as they act black."

Enough said.

i35vagabond never said Springfield was **totally** Midwestern, just that it seemed **more** Midwestern than Southern. <sigh>

That said, I'm done browsing through this forum, and probably will never run into "imbored" again.

My family is hispanic and before moving out there I would like to get a better read on the area before we move. And I would also like to hear from people who live in the area directly versus news articles.

I am black or african-american and have been living in Southwest Missouri for seven years in a little town near by Springfield.

I have to tell you that I lived in southern California for most of my life and I feel more comfortable in Springfield than I did there. It's safer and the people are kinder. They aren't effusive for the most part but kinder than you'd think.

Default Do racism affect black male college persistence?

As an African American male college student, what factors would influence your decision to leave college early?
