We lived in Springfield a few years back ,It was A Surprise we came from FLA. We founded it friendly But small country type town it is not it is a Busy college city. That sad you do have a lot of churches all sizes. But before I took a family I would go and stay a week or two to see what it is really like, HOT HOT summers ,cold windy wet winters yes but the storms are the worst, Tornadoes Ask any one to be honset If you buy/rent a house you will want a TORNADOE shelter and you will spend several night a week over about 3 months in it ! Wish some one had told me this !! People are not that friendly Not like down south but again It what you make it, Good luck!

I've just about quit reading forums on city-data (or anywhere else), because there are too many posts by people who have no concept of spelling, punctuation, capitalization or any other aspect of English grammar that we old people learned in our rural and small-town Missouri schools.

well its partly due to texting on cell phones and apparently they dont teach grammar in school
anymore. I am mystified when I get on some message boards and see all the wrong spelled words
that I learned how to spell in grade school.

whats really amazing is computers have spell check
at least mine does

Even ignoring the obvious spelling/grammar errors...........I rent, I don't have a tornado shelter, and I have only hidden in my closet twice in the seven years I have lived here. I grew up in the Deep South, and I find people here to be just as friendly as down there. And how anyone from Fla. can say that OUR summers are hot or humid is beyond me. I have been to Fla. multiple times, and it is so much more humid and hot than MO could ever hope to be, without the breezes.

I'll second that. It's becoming too much work to Interpret and translate everything into English.

The tornadoe problem is not as bad as you state. In fact, Springfield and this part of the Ozarks sits in a good position where most, not all of course, but most tornadoes actually go all around the city.

Ok I was told years ago that Indians wouldn't camp in Springfield area because a Tornado gets in the area holds there and does much more damage.

I think about '67 Tornadoes took out many Dairy Barns and left many with out Electric. We had Tractor Generator,we was milking 24 hours a day and Milk Truck basically set and the farm. This was where Deer Lake Golf Course is at this time.

My Father in Law wasn't wanting me to marry my wife, called me a French N..... because of my Cajun ancestory

My Ex was Full Blooded Native American her family hated Blacks.

Just the way things were from the time I was a kid

Had Southern Cross hanging in my Front Room many a Blacks spent time with me nothing was ever said.It isn't about hate.

Well down in the Ozark Mountains folks stick together and don't really have that big city outlook on life in general. It is more simple I suppose you might say and people don't stick their noses in other peoples business etc.

Folks down here are indeed friendly but their are places that take on another coat of paint you might say. Some think Jesse James was the Robin Hood of Missouri and don't say anything bad about Capt. William Clark Quantrill, now buried in Lexington, Missouri.
