Big Watney fan. But a bit less now that he's with Nike. And using that as the excuse for his lack of success over the last two seasons.
Real jealous right now. I'm swing everyday... in my family room. The courses are all still snow covered. And it's been raining. That will help remove the snow. But it will be real wet for another week or so. Sigh.
Watched Watney on the range and putting green. He was tinkering w/ his putting stroke taking advice from his caddy and coach- getting very mechanical with hip angle and a few other things - kept missing 3-footers and being frustrated - looking up at the couple of fans watching. Felt bad from him. He's a favorite - nice guy from what I hear.
Ran into Els alone late the day with just his caddy on the front nine - no other fans around. I yelled over to Ernie that Rush Limbaugh was talking about him today on his radio show and was very complimentary about Ernies Autism fund raiser.....he was very happy to hear that and hadn't heard Rush's show that day........my brush with celebrity story.......

Sucks to hear about Watney. I also really like him. And Els too. That swing is just so perfect. Actually very surprised he doesn't have more majors than he does (or have achieved the lifetime exemption yet).

Actually it's not very surprising... considering Ernie's best golf at the majors was during the 2000s but unfortunately for him and everyone else it was dominated by Tiger. I think he had at least 5 or 6 2nd place finishes between 2000-2004.... 3 or 4 of those are probably majors that Tiger won.
Overall Ernie's had a heck of a career so far. His swing (like Fred Couples) is ageless and he'll be able to compete for time to come as long as he can remain healthy.
Spent half a day out at Innisbrook watching this week's PGA event.......mostly players on the bottom of the leaderboard. The Copperhead sure does get a lot of props from the broadcasters - not sure if it's deserved. Sure it's a nice course and looks pretty green this year, but they've got to stop saying its one of the better courses on tour.
Hell of a match. I think that's the first tournament in a LONG time that actually had be glued to the tube on Sunday. Albeit I was actually pulling for O'Hair... <sigh>
Guess Speith needed a harder putt to win. That 10 footer on the first playoff was just too easy eh?
And as much as I don't really care for Reed - that plugged bunker shot AND the short-sided flop out of the rough was just... dare I say it ... "Tigeresque".
what a story if Sam Saunders wins this week......would love to see that happen....and he could use the 3-yr exemption probably more than anyone in the field.
