Never a truer word said munna. Joel strikes again...... At least that should be the last we ever see of him.

However, that a top ranked umpire can't get a plumb LBW decision correct should be a worry to all Cricket fans. It wasn't even close. And he doesn't have the emotion and desperation excuse, or the fact that he is behind the wicket and can't see the pitch of the ball. The man has had 12 decisions over turned in two test matches! And a few others that would have been if further reviews were available.

I can see a future where all appeals will be reviewed unfortunately. We are in this crazy limbo land where umpiring standards have declined because of DRS in my opinion. And unfortunately we have shifted the umpiring onus to the team Captains. I think we need to get to all or nothing on the DRS. DRS was mean't to prevent the "howler" decision like this one.

But none of that is the fault of Ben Stokes. He deserves a Knighthood! Brilliant.
I think Stokes will get a Knighthood, the key to their World Cup win, and now this.
Definitely.
If they end up winning the Ashes especially, he'll have done more than Andy Murray, or actually the World Cup alone is arguably bigger than Murray's Olympic Golds, because of it being their first World Cup win ever.

Regarding DRS, maybe just let the on-field umpires make decisions, and privately the 3rd Umpire should review every decision and 3rd Umpire should only say something if the on-field umpire got it wrong.
And let the players continue playing, and if the 3rd Umpire reverses a decision then remove any runs from the scoreboard that were scored during the 'in-between-time'.
That way the game won't be interrupted unless it really needs to be.

It'd create awesome drama, because you'd have scenarios were someone was given out and walked off the field and then was told to come back.
And you'd have scenarios were a player goes from 99 to 100 and then gets a tap on the shoulder and told he was out for 99.
The drama would be must-see TV!

In the meantime until we get to reviews of all decisions, we need to move away from the neutral umpire nonsense for the Ashes. When the best umpires can't umpire the best Test Series, we are doing it wrong.

I agree, no point in neutral umpires.
Its not like a biased home umpire could get away with much anyway.
In fact if anything a 'home umpire' would be paranoid about being seen as biased, so they'd be scared to do anything for the home team.

Tim Paine is unfit to captain Australia. His DRS decisions were patchy. He is hardly an inspirational Batsman. He became complacent when Jofra Archer and Ben Stokes were on the crease together. At that time, they should have brought Fast Bowlers on both the ends, not Nathan Lyon. Natural instinct of a tailender is to hit the ball out of the park. Watever Boundaries they hit at that time on Spinner were the easy runs, Foundation for England win.

England should get massive confidence from this, while Australia will surely be a bit damaged.
England also looked really good in the 2nd Test, and were closer to winning that than Australia was.
And Anderson is probably returning for the 4th Test....
England's fast bowling attack is the best in the world when everyone's healthy.
Even without Anderson its very good.

He's been netting against the Aussie quicks.
I don't see any doubt on his return.
Jimmy Anderson's is not so clear cut

He will be there, and hopefully Captain even if not having the "C" next to his name. They will need to keep Marnus so probably Wade to go. Ideally we drop Paine, and Wade for Carey and Smith.

Good news that we will have new umpires for the 4th Test.
