The difference between the two is:
Professional wrestling is more of sports entertainment and sports scripted
Olympic wrestling is not

I don't understand what some of you are complaining of the Olympics about anyways. It's the most exciting events ever and it only happens once every four years with the Summer and Winter Olympic Games rotating every other year.

if anything, they should reduce the number of event or "sports" categories. so much of the summer olympics is dumb, like subjectively judged synchronized swimming, trampoline, bmx cycling and skateboarding (really????), beach volleyball, rhythmic gymnastics, equestrian dressage. the last one is the dumbest, they get on a horse, and they hop around and get scored on that by judges.

Please, those are all Olympic sports. You can't do anything about it and neither can I. You are going to have to live with it and so will I. FYI, the last one is the dumbest is Equestrian for your sake.

Plus come on people, stop the complaining and arguments and get over it. Plus this thread is getting a little off topic anyways.

Strictly amateurs. I don't watch events with professionals.

You call a basketball game with one team winning by 40+ points exciting? Ha! I'd rather watch paint dry.

As long as you're comparing apples to apples. I'm sure other countries pay their Olympic athletes, don't they? Some recruit them as young children and provide for every need.

I'm a bit torn over this.

Yes. The Olympics is about the best of the best. If you're keeping out the pros, you're essentially making the Olympics a second tier event.

Track and Field is my main interest. It was once a wonderful sport, when it was all amateur, strictly enforced. When the athletes were on a tour, they'd get a maximum of $50. per day, for expenses. Those who were participating were doing it for the love of the activity and the glory. Nowadays, some of them make more than a million dollars a year and if you wanted to compete and adhere to the old, amateur principles, they wouldn't allow you to participate. The temptation to cheat by using illegal drugs is high. Certainly, these commercial athletes should not be allowed in the Olympics.

If other countries were caught giving high cash payments to their athletes, those countries should be suspended from Olympic participation for 20 years or so. This has been done in a limited way to about 60 Russian athletes for alleged doping violations, for the upcoming Olympics. Those idealists who revived the Modern Olympics would turn over in their graves, if they knew what was being done by the athletes today.

Do you honestly think America winning the Olympics is the best of the best in basketball?! It's not. It is indeed a 2nd tier event. It's like a pop warner team playing a pro team. Not one of our professional basketball stars would look at that gold medal and give it two thoughts (it's like a shoot around for them). They know the major accomplishment in their lives is winning the NBA championship and so do any of the European players that play in the NBA. The event is a joke. Which make the fact that they were upset such an embarrassment for the country in 2004. The U.S. could easily put together a second set of athletes that were a notch lower than the "Dream Team" and they could win the gold medal also. As mentioned previously, it would be like having a professional NFL team that wins every game by 40+ points. It's boring and noncompetitive, and no one would have interest in that for long (the Nielsen ratings would plummet). The reason most American sports have such excitement is because at some point, the elite teams meet each other and it's like a prize fight. But you don't get that in Olympic basketball. There is never another elite team that comes around (and therefore no suspense whatsoever). Some of you people are so caught up on winning that you miss the point that people want a competitive event. it meant more when our amateurs (who are outstanding) represented the country. We did extremely well and it was fun to watch. Our greatest event in history was the Miracle on Ice. That event would have meant nothing had it been professional hockey players. This whole winning at all costs mentality that some of you have is a bit much. I think most people would like to watch a competitive game than what we're getting now. Would you honestly feel proud accepting a medal if you beat a 10 year old in a fight? Would you raise the American Flag and think how special you were for beating this kid? I'm thinking not. But that is what happens sometimes with the type on one-sided-ness we get in some of these events. Again, boring and uninteresting.
