gotta say Don Shula of the Dolphins, Jimmy Johnson of the Cowboys...those come to mind. Obviously Pat Riley and Phil Jackson for the NBA.

You know, I am not so sure about either one of those two NBA coaches, despite all their titles. I think if most coaches had the benefit of Magic, Kareem, Worthy, Jordan, Pippen, Shaq, etc., they would have won their fair share of championships, too. Look at how ordinary Jackson looks now without a dominant center and only one special talent. I know that coaches are measured by championships won, and all champions are talented, but those two seemed to enjoy almost an excess of special talent.

As far as the NFL- definitely Jimmy Johnson- his teams had a ton of talent, too, but he collected most of it himself. Lombardi, definitely. Parcells and Belichick have to be included, as do Halas and Lambeau. Shula- even though he didn't win tons of titles, he always had competitive teams even during down years. Bill Walsh, because he made the most out of Montana's talents even before Rice came along, and because his defenses were very underrated. Chuck Noll- I can't discount any coach who won 4 Super Bowls. I'll round out my list with Mike Holmgren- even though he had the benefit of Reggie White with which to anchor his Packer defenses, he made Favre what he is, and he has done pretty well with his Seattle teams, too.
