Rave: I get new Tenny runners and boots fitted to my feet.
Rant: Have to go through catalogs to figure what I want. I hate shopping, even if it is simply sitting in an air conditioned office, going through a catalog.
Rave: I am having lunch with a friend that I met here on City Data. We do it often.
Rant: It's my turn to buy. Wonder if he likes roller dogs from Maverick?
Rave: meeting people from city-data.
Rave: everything was going good.
Rant: then the tire went flat
Rave: the fix is easy.
Rave: switched modes and got more done. It wasn't a complete waste.
Rave: the under 200 pound mark is in sight.
Rave: She had the hang of it, back and forth, back and forth, plant the fly and let it drift.
Rant: She had the hang of it, back and forth, back and forth, snag my arm, realize the fly is not flying out in front of her, so she things the proper response is to YANK it back and forth, Yank it back and forth, maybe if she YANK's harder, it will fly out there like it is supposed to.
Rave: With forceps I was able to twist and pull it out of my arm, pulling my skin almost 3 inches out before it popped loose.
Rant: Hook was rusty and dirty. She says, "It's probably part of the brook trout I caught 5 years ago, that's the last time I used that fly."
Houses in Brookings, SD at the low end of the price range seem to be $20,000 to $30,000 more expensive than any other surrounding communities, including Marshall, MN, Watertown, SD, Huron, SD, and Sioux Falls, SD. Basically homes you can find for around $90k to $100k in these towns are $125K in Brookings.
I'd like to live in town close to work but don't want to pay these inflated prices out of principal... perhaps I'll just rent here indefinitely until I absolutely need to buy a house (meeting someone, having kids, whatever)
Moving to surrounding communities 15+ miles away does mitigate this problem... but I don't feel like commuting.
Higher pay from 3M and the college, combined with slumlords buying out the homes zoned R-3 and renting them out by the room to college students.. even with all the expansion in apartments we still have enough of a shortage to drive these prices.
As someone with an eastern WI/Chicago 'attitude' I like to 'keep it real' so naturally a few rants and raves here.
Rave: Nice spot over lake Madison with the family and nephew, great fun, good food, good family, and great fireworks for purchase in south dakota.. those nice 500 gram boxes filled with mortars are by far the way to go for combination bang for the buck and enjoyment factor.
Rant: Lake Madison's fireworks, particularly the finale, was about the worst and shortest finale I've ever seen. Wentworth's were better. In fact I have not seen worse.
The atmosphere with all the other people around lighting their own was great though. So I'm not mad.. to have a piece of lake property on Lake Madison where you can go any time you want is a treat. Next year I'll take the same spot, and bring $300 of my own stuff along and give the people in the area a treat. Heck $300 probably isn't much for some people.
Funny thing to note... I've never not heard some applause from people after the finale, but I heard none tonight.. not so much as a single clap.
rave: I know most people don't enjoy it but I love cloudy, mild, humid mornings with high dewpoints. Had a great 40 mile bike ride this morning. Paradise. 75 degree air temperature, 70 degree dewpoint... my kind of morning.
