Cycling in Seattle gives you immunity from all traffic infractions.

Thanks everyone for calming my nerves (still feel bad, but I think it's only natural).

Lamplight - I don't think anyone was calling you that, assuming you're not one of the breakers of the rules of the road. Nothing wrong with cycling. Kudos to you for your role in saving our decrepit environment, and staying fit.

Yeah, I know most probably don't feel that way. It just rubs me the wrong way when a person writes off an entire group of people simple due to their means of getting from point A to point B.

I'm usually on my motorcycle - trust me, I know what you're talking about.

Those are people you so freely dehumanize. You might want to rethink your attitude before you hurt a fellow human being.

To the OP, it is shocking when something like that happens even when it's through no fault of your own. I was walking home last winter and a runner ran through a red light and got nailed by a car in front of me. It took me a day to relax after seeing that so I know how you feel. (he was fine btw)

I'm one happy cockroach then!

I get around without polluting the environment, burning foreign fossil fuels, and spending thousands of dollars on owning/maintaining/licensing a car. In addition, I get exercise which clears my mind and helps me maintain happiness.

Go check out Portland if you think it's bad here.

I don't have any particular problem with them, but many of them do have a bad habit of just assuming you see them racing up on you in your passenger side mirror as you go to make a right hand turn, as if nothing bad with happen if you don't.

Its the same with pedestrian's here in WA. When I first moved here I was just amazed by the number of people who got hit by cars but now I understand it. Because they have the right of way, many just step out into the street WITHOUT LOOKING because you have to stop. They do not take into consideration you may need time to stop or you may not see them at all. Especially because no one ever uses the cross walk, they just step out from behind a line of parked cars which obscures your view of them.

Cars are supposed to yield to bikes in the bike lane when making a right turn across it..
