Anyone fellow arachnophobes? I may have a nervous breakdown soon. This is the one thing I truly hate about Seattle.

Other parts of the country are worse but yes, I've been bitten plenty just like every year around this time. I don't know if it's healthy but spraying Off before sleeping might help.

OMG.

I have only found a couple in the house. I think you'd have to institutionalize me if I needed OFF to sleep.

I hate walking to my car in the morning, though. There are webs everywhere.

I've learned to love spiders since moving here. There was a 35 year old tarantula named "Rosie" who's habitat was right next to my chair in a Biology lab at NSCC and she was often our subject and model to understand basic biological processes such as cellular respiration and using ATP. I owe all my academic success to Rosie and her kind. It helps to remind myself that spiders will take care of all the other indoor pests I don't like.. roaches, mosquitoes, flies, earwigs... even other spiders (of course, that just means you have less small spiders and a few really big spiders.. which is worse???). I would say, "keep your windows closed" but that's as good as saying don't let any cold air escape from your fridge.

Rosie sounds so innocent for a tarantula. I like the sound of the rain in the winter and the sounds of the wildlife in the summer so I guess it's windows or insect repellent. It doesn't seem to be much of a problem until August and it's a battle for four or five weeks.

Is this really a thing? I mean does everyone see more spiders in their house this time of year? Being new here, I just assumed Seattle had lots of spiders. If it's a seasonal thing, that's good news because it means it will end!

Yes, it is a seasonal thing. Right now there are webs everywhere. The female spiders are out looking for mates (or so I read somewhere). It'll die down in a couple of months and we'll go back to our bug-free existence.

I know they are harmless, but you can't rationalize away a phobia. Seeing a spider makes my heart pound and makes me feel sweaty and freaked out.

OMG! What kind of spiders are you talking about? How big? Could anyone post a photo? I am trying to convince the rest of the family to relocate to Seattle....did not know about the spiders. That is one I really don´t like.

Of course we deal with the tree roaches here, and have had the beach mouse enter our condo...hate those too!
