So I just took a new job in Campell and need to move closer to work (I currently live in Oakland)...I am not familiar at all with the South Bay/Peninsula, but would like to live somewhere with a downtown, other single people (I'd be renting an apt)..and I'd like to be about 20 and no farther from work...some people have suggested Mountain View? (Is everyone in Campbell/Los Gatos old/married/established?) I welcome any and all suggestions!!

There is nothing wrong with Campbell itself and I wouldn't rule it out. It has a nice downtown area Welcome to Downtown Campbell (http://www.downtowncampbell.com/about.php - broken link). There is also VTA light rail service from downtown Campbell to other areas of San Jose such as the Caltrain station Light Rail 902 - Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority.

Mountain View is very nice; Castro Street is a particularly interesting place for younger people in terms of nightlife, restaurants, etc. And Mountain View is also on the aforementioned VTA Light Rail.

I second Mountain View. Willow Glen is kind of hip too.

I have nothing against Castro Street in Mtn. View, however it does have an excessive number of Asian and Indian restaurants - maybe 20 of them with about 4 blocks. It's OK if you like Asian food a lot.

Who doesn't?! My roommate is from St. Louis and he always raves about the food scene there, but even to him, the Indian food in the Bay Area is matchless.

I agree there are lots of Asian places. If you take Castro street to W Dana (coming from the 85) and take a right there is an awesome mexican restaraunt about a block down. Great burritos.

Taqueria Los Charros I believe it's called.

Yeah, I like Asian cuisine, but I wouldn't want it every day.

We used to like the NY-style pizza at Amici's, near El Camino Real.

I would say Mountain View or Palo Alto. Palo Alto has a pretty fun night scene, lots of singles.
