The Bay Bridge would seem more important than the Golden Gate because it connects SF to Oakland. Is it?

If by more important you mean "overall more traffic volume", then yes, it is more important.

IMHO the western span of bay bridge also looks a lot nicer that GGB. GGB of course is in a much more dramatic natural setting.

I've noticed that some movies that are set in the bay area sort of "imply" that the bay bridge is the golden gate bridge.

Residents of Marin County probably consider the GGB more important.

The Bay Bridge carries 400,000 vehicles per day, and hundreds of thousands more go through the Transbay Tube via BART. The population of the East Bay is far higher than the North Bay. So yes, it is more important to the success of the community. But you can't walk across it, and it isn't pretty. It's our workhorse.

I love the approach to SF downtown via the Bay Bridge. Especially at night. It feels like you are entering a big and happening city

I'm the opposite. I love the approach from the GGB. Highlands, Presidio, Palace of Arts, into the Marina.

But yeah, the bay bridge is more important. It carries double the traffic volume (270k vs 110k) and is much longer.
