I've had fastrak since they started it on the GGB and have some experience with this system. There are a few flaws which completely derail the advantages that the system is supposed to offer.

The left lane (fastrak lane) is almost always slower than the curb lane because:
  1. large percentage of drivers with fastrak want to be in this lane to avoid jockeying over at the toll plaza. However, the outer lanes will flow more smoothly because most of the cars have fastrak and are sitting in the fastrak lane.
  2. Toll users in the left toll lane back up and completely block the fastrak access lane, causing all of the fastrak users to stop completely.
  3. People who game the system (me) by using the curb lane and then jockey over two lanes to get in the fastrak lane ahead of all of the drivers who are waiting for their chance to get to the fastrak only booths.
  4. I'm not even taking into consideration a few drivers who stop in the fastrak booth looking for somewhere to pay. This isn't really the problem.
On holiday weekends when the bridge is four lanes going south it's even worse trying to get around all of the non-fastrak users from the curb lane to the fastrak booths.
