This is bad news for the business community along El Cajon Boulevard. Pearson Ford had one of the most sizable and well established operations in the area.

Most likely anything that replaces it, and getting a replacement will be a long shot, will be a struggling new business that will not generate much foot traffic, and will have difficulty maintaining and keeping the buildings graffiti free. I can just see it now, Pearson will be replaced by a collection of check cashing places and liquor stores.

At one point, the whole area between Pearson Ford, and SR-15 (40th Street) was supposed to be a pilot urban village. Unfortunately, the R/E downturn that started in 2005 killed of the funding for that project. Now the loss of Pearson will take out the big-name anchor in the area.

On a more hopeful note, maybe the departure of Pearson will cause the other less attractive auto-centered businesses in the area to eventually leave too. These other establishments, with their metal fences, stacks of car parts and tires, and grimy oil covered lots have been a blight. Perhaps, with the one auto business that did it's job right leaving, the other trashy places won't be able to sustain themselves, economically and politically.
