Does anyone have Palm Trees on their property ?
And if so do any animals, birds or insects make a home in them ?
I'm curious to hear about other forum members experiences with the critters that inhabit their Palm Trees.

I wish I could help you out more. I do have some palm trees but they are still very young as I planted them myself, so they aren't big enough to hold any large animals yet. They do seem to get ants from time to time, as well as some earwigs, but nothing truly major.

I would think a large palm tree would definitely be a nice little resting spot for some birds though.

There are infamous stories of the palm tree rats, perhaps more on the bearded, ungroomed trees - sometimes visible at night traveling along electrical wires...

Rats ? Thats interesting. I thought only spiders and scorpions liked to hide out in Palm trees. I'v heard from others that Owls like to hide up in them too.

We have owls in our neighborhood that sleep during the day up in a huge Washingtonian Palm tree up the street from us. It's very shady inside so it's the perfect cover.

Yes, it's true! I've seen them on the power lines. Thank goodness there are plans to bury the lines in the future.

I've got the same going on in my neighborhood. Last year, one of them attacked and killed a neighbor's kitten and left it's remains in my driveway.

Love those Palmetto bugs (ala flying cockroaches). My wife screamed bloody murder when they would drop from the Palm trees into her hair.

I've never seen a Palmetto bug in San Diego. Our friends near SDSU have June bugs.
