We're arriving in San Diego on Dec. 30 for a 2 month stay via VRBO. For our first month, we'll be near Sunset Cliffs. Two part question:

(1) any chance of fireworks over the bay this year? If so, where's the closest spot to watch from where we''ll be? If not, I read that Sea World will have fireworks. What time will they be, and where's a good place to watch?

(2) we'd like a nice NYE dinner without battling crowds or starting at $95/pp - some kind of music would be a bonus. We don't want to drive more than about 20 minutes (we'll have just driven from Chicago). Any suggestions? Shelter Island? Harbor Island? La Jolla? Downtown not in the Gaslamp district? Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

I did hear from Sea World and they said this about their fireworks: "We will present a special New Year’s Eve fireworks show on Dec. 31st, following our final Shamu’s Christmas show at approximately 7:50pm." So the only question would be a good viewing point.

We are now looking at Island Prime and Bo Beau for dinner; the first seems to be more splashy and celebratory atmosphere; the other more intimate and quiet.

The food at Bo Beau is vastly superior.
