great points but I do think the OPs friend has already figured out the whys. She/he is probably a Jr by now seeing the post was started in 2011.

Now, for SDSU I had no idea is was hard to get into university. My oh my, how things change. When I went there, they would take anyone with a high school diploma. They took me, didn't they?

Out of state tuition fees = Extra money
My Oldest didn't even bother applying for SDSU(all his friends were being turn down)
He got accept to ASU no problems though

There was a while there when ASU and SDSU were fighting for biggest party school in the country. Then SDSU landed on the Nightly News for drug running, and I think that fell off some.

SDSU is still a top 25 party school year after year.Most kids want to come here for the party and the weather hence Record number of applicants to SDSU.

Wow, that's crazy! I graduated from SDSU 20 years ago, and it wasn't difficult to get into at all. I loved my time there...great school!!

I always find that strange considering what a commuter college it is.

I taught at SDSU for a few years before moving over to USD. I was always amazed by how few out of staters there were back then (and "back then" was only 4 years ago).

That Is Weird!
I Personally Know of 6 Kids That were Not Accepted This Year Alone.
But they Were Accepted To UC schools Around The state.
