They do still favor locals. In the Union Tribune today is an article that trouches on the fact that the Sweetwater district guarantees entry to State if the student keeps a B average. I am going to guess they aren't the only district that has such an agreement.

Years? more like months, I started SDSU last fall. Like everyone says, because of all these budget cuts, even trying to get financial aid is another hassle on it's own. There's always UCSD

A couple of things you might want to keep in mind: US News and World Reports like any other publication is giving you thier opinion only, there is no way to measure a "best univeristy" versus a Worst University" and you are saying it yourself: you think UC Irvine is better but that is simply an opinion. Now add to that what a person intends on majoring in and the popularity of the institution. Maybe you think UC campuses are superior, but they are not being sought out as much as SDSU.

I've been in business with large Corporations most of my working career and for the most part the school you went to means diddly and squat.

Yeah that's because a lot more people are not eligible to even apply to them in addition to all the people that have no chance of getting in to many of them even if they are eligible. Community Colleges are sought out much more than CSU's and UC's but what does that mean? Nothing really imo.

There are ways to measure how universities are better than others and it's been done. SDSU is not on the level of Harvard, that's a fact not an opinion. Sorry it bothers some of you but SDSU and CSU's in general are lower tier schools than UC's and there is nothing wrong with that as they are still perfectly good universities.

No surprise, but this thread has veered way off course into LaLa land. The question was "why is SDSU hard to get into," and now it's devolved into how SDSU isn't as good as Harvard. Wow, to quote the Talking Heads, "You may ask yourself, well, how did I get here?"

UCSD is a tad above Davis...not in the rank of prestigious yet. But UCSD is getting better every year in the rankings, whereas Davis (my alma matter) stays stagnant.

Did anyone ever claim they were at the same level as Harvard? Boy are you spinning this.

SDSU is hard to get into because:

1) Its in a desirable city
2) Its very cheap
3) Its fun
4) It has a LOT of applicants for the above reasons
5) Very limited spots due to being funded by depressed state funding

End of thread

It's also a good school with some great programs. You must have just forgot that one.
