I'm looking to move to CA - have been told to check into Temecula as a possible location. Is everywhere in this city safe or should I focus on certain areas?

My criteria are:
1) Safe, safe and safe - have a young child
2) Good public schools (preschool and early childhood classes included - if any)
3) Close proximity to things such as restaurants, malls, grocery stores
4) Kid/family friendly (e.g., parks and fun activities for little ones)

I assume the area is diverse enough that there are ethnic restaurants and oriental grocery stores??? I would rent initially - my house price range when buying would be up to $350k.

Thanks!

Sister city Murrieta was rated the second safest city in the ENTIRE COUNTRY according to FBI stats, for 3 or 4 years in a row.

Temecula has good schools. I don't have anything to back up my claim but I moved from an very high rated public school community (Rancho Palos Verdes) and my kids say it's comparable in experience.

There are plenty of these but if you want grandiose malls, you should look into Rancho Cucamonga although I don't think anything compares to what you're used to "Mall of America". Victoria Gardens in R.C. is probably more modern than Mall of America. Temecula mall is tiny but adequate.

Temecula (and Murrieta) are certainly the right choice for this. It doesn't get more family/kid oriented than this.

Yes, I'm Asian so I can attest that it is ethnically diverse. Perhaps not compared to Los Angeles, but it's adequate. There are a handful of oriental grocery stores for anything serious you'd have to go to San Diego or Rancho Cucamonga where they have 99 Ranch. There is a knock off of that called 98 Ranch opening soon I don't know when. However, there are a LOT of Vietnamese, Thai, and Japanese restaurants in Temecula and a few Chinese restaurants.

$350k is adequate pricing for an average home in Temecula.

I stand corrected, Temecula in 2011 was rated the #2 safest city in America and Murrieta as #4. TEMECULA: City named second safest in America | Southwest Riverside County News | PE.com - Press-Enterprise

Murrieta was #2 in 2010 so they go back and forth. I hope this answers your question on if safety is a concern. The only way you can get any safer in the entire COUNTRY, is to move to Irvine.

I'm might be transferred to the area. Are there any good dim sum restaurants? Thanks!

No, sorry. Chinese restaurants in general are the most lacking in the oriental foods category. You *might* find some @ Pechanga Casino but don't take my word on that. I think San Diego would be your best bet (about 60 miles away).

Ugh, I'm sorry but something doesn't quite add up here. You claim to be "Asian" yet continue using the word "oriental" in reference to Asian food.

Well, from my perspective I describe people as Asian and non-person items, such as food, as oriental. Food does not have feelings it can't be offended.

"
1. oriental

Politically incorrect term used in place of "Asian." Correct usage should be an adjective for things like inanimate objects, not humans.
Correct usage: There's an Oriental rug store on Derbe Drive.
or
Are you going to the Oriental market?

That is fake posting at a business website. If you google FBI stats, Temecula is not #2.
