Anyone know why there's a huge cross up there? Does a church own the property?

The cross was installed early in the 1900's, as a dedication to the founder of the California Missions, Father Junipero Serra. I think the original cross was wood, but later replaced with the big concrete one that's there now.

Thanks for the compliments on the pics. I just moved back to the area after being out of state for a few years, so I'm sure I'll be taking lots more pics too. Here are some that I took in Palm Springs yesterday evening.
