yuck..... Twinkletoes. I used to live in Redlands and lived one mile drive from home to work. On the drive to work my mascara would melt my top eyelashes to my bottom lashes on the way to work. I am not sorry I don't live there now! I now love my summer fog.

It was 106 degrees today @ 2500 feet in elevation. My cooler pan leaks so i drained it & put in that black roofing tar but i gotta wait a few days or more for it to harden. When it rains it pours in my life but the cooler is quite old & rusty & i patch it up every single year (12 yrs so far). The pads are on yr 4 but they should make it through the summer & i replaced the 1/2 hp motor about 4 or so yrs ago. Did i say "I HATE SUMMER" ?

Even if you can't afford anything more, I would change the straw pads. After awhile they get hard and can't absorb the water - which affects cooling.

We had a big old thing (5' x 5' x5'!) on our roof when I was growing up - Dad changed the pads every year ...

Yesterday i did get the cooler up & running with the 4 yr old straw pads. Cool air was coming out of the downdraft vents. It was 106 & coolers only reduce the temp by 20 or so degrees but 86 is better then 106. My cooler started to leak last night & it was the metal pan. I have never changed my pads every year. I usually do it every 2 or 3 yrs but this year is a stretch at 4. If it doesnt work out ill replace the pads at $3.50 x 4 + tax. Ill just hope for the best. The pads have shrunk & if i remove them they will fall apart big time. Im just hoping my cooler doesnt leak since i put henrys roofing cement in the pan.

Henrys roofing cement lasts one season inside the cooler & on the roof until it starts to crack. Even after i would white coat the black cement it would still crack the following year. Its still alot cheaper for me to patch the roof & cooler every year then to have them replaced. A new roof runs approx $3500.00 & a new downdraft cooler around 1k. I use the cooler from july-sept.
