You must not have lived here in 1998. It was not pleasant at all during the flood. Loss of life, property, and businesses having to close for a couple of days is not my idea of fun. Then we turned around and did it again in what, '02?

I agree. For anyone who wasn't here in 1998 or 2002, I recommend you watch this: Flash Flood Alley Home Page

Then come back and tell me another epic flood is worth ending the drought. (Not that I'm a drought monger, I hate it, but that's the other extreme)

Ahhhh good point. Floods like that are scary. Standing in your doorway watching the incoming flash flood about to take over your house....not cool.

I was here in 2002 and remember that flood well. It was a great test for my then brand new house and we luckily survived it without a scratch, except for finding an engineering flaw with the roof that got us a free gutter system. We maybe don't need one that bad, but we need some serious rain and it needs to not stop for quite a while. As far as those living on rivers and in flood-prone areas, you probably should've thought of that before you moved there.. and for any new people in the area. If there is a flood gauge on a road by a neighborhood you are checking out, RUN! don't even think about it. it will flood and it will flood often.

From what the weather people are saying you will find out before the end of the year if you're in a flood plain or not.....

I found this beautiful summer poem and thought it might help make your day.

It did mine, and it's very well written.

ENJOY!

Of course I've heard of the horrible '98 floods... should've thought before I posted a comment like that. Sorry to anyone who was offended.

Anyways, a lot my relatives just left San Antonio after 1 week of visiting. They really enjoyed San Antonio's attractions, but of course, they just about died from the heat (they're from up north).

Even the bats are all out of whack. The Bracken cave bats are flying earlier due to the dryness and lack of bugs. - according to Steve Brown on KSAT -

Interesting. Made it look like a cool pop-up shower on the radar screen!

I blame the recession. The poor economy has lead to higher prices for insects so the bats need to work longer and harder hours in order to afford food.

It could also be the reason why we can't afford to buy our rain. (well on that note.. next week is looking pretty good for some chances of storms)
