I cannot believe there aren't more offices for getting a driver's license!

I finally went last week to officially become a "Texan", only to realize I forgot my birth certificate. So, they gave me a blue slip and told me when I come back, that I can bypass the line, etc. So, I did that today, and let me tell you, I think next time I have to go there, I'm going to forget something on purpose just to get a blue slip, then go back another day. (OK, just kidding! it was a great time saver though!)

Are there any other driver's license bureaus?? I can't believe there's only one or two in San Antonio that serves ALL of San Antonio!

The newest office on Pat Booker Rd. in Universal City is large, well-designed and a stone's throw from the city limits. It's much nicer than the dingy, cramped office it replaced on Perrin-Beitel.

Go to New Braunfels or Seguin, shorter lines.

Last two times I've had to do any drivers license related things I've gone to the one in Seguin or the one Boerne. I was in Seguin for school so that was convenient and it's just less of a hassle to drive up to Boerne. Although that office is small. I haven't been there since maybe 2004. The one on Babcock and 410 was super crowded the one time I was there.

The last time I renewed my licence I went to the Floresville office. I walked right up to the counter, cleared my throat, then cleared my throat again and the lady woke right up and renewed my licence, took my picture then gave me my eye test and I was on my way. Piece of cake!

There are four in Bexar County:
  • Babcock (about 1/2 mile inside 410)
  • General McMullen (about a block or two south of US 90)
  • S New Braunfels (just north of Pecan Valley)
  • Pat Booker (at Kitty Hawk)

There are also offices in New Braunfels, Boerne, Seguin, Floresville, and most of the other county seats around San Antonio. As others have mentioned, those tend to be the least crowded.

You're right though-- there do need to be at least a couple more. IMO, they need one in the 281/1604 area and another one in the Loop 1604 West corridor.

I read somewhere that the Babcock DPS office was the busiest in the state.

Vehicle registration isn't done at the same location as drivers licenses...you have to go to the County Tax Office: Register Your Vehicle

Yep, the Babcock office was extremely busy! That was my rant for the day last Friday when I went the first time.
