Once you "officially" become a Texas resident, you have 30 days to register your vehicle(s) in Texas, regardless of when you registration would have expired in your previous state of residence. The only people I know of who can maintain a non-Texas registration are enlisted military people who are stationed in Texas.

What they don't know won't hurt them.

If you get pulled over and the cop figures it out, they will give you a big fat ticket for exceeding the 30 day window.

If you live in Bexar county, can you still use the offices in other counties (i.e. the one in New Braunfels)?

How are they going to figure it out? He could've just driven into town for all they know.

I was WAY over the 30-day limit by the time I finally changed mine over.

Hey - feel free to give it a try. Just be cognizant of the price of failure - and don't come running back lookin' for sympathy....

Well, I think some people just end up incriminating themselves when they get pulled over.

If your license, registration, insurance, etc. still all reflect your previous out-of-state address, you might get away with it unless they ask if it is still your current address. If you say "no", and they ask how long you've lived here, if you say more than 30 days, they may cite you.

I think what happens more often is maybe you get a Texas DL, but haven't gotten a Texas Registration. Now you've got some explaining to do, because if you have the permanent license they mail you, it's probably already been at least a few weeks.

I know someone who got stopped for a traffic violation here in San Antonio a few years back. Had Texas registration/DL/insurance, but the address on the license didn't match the insurance. Officer asks which address is correct. She says the insurance card. He asks how long she's been at that address. She tells him how long, which was something like six months. Officer issues a citation for failure to obtain corrected license within 30 days, in addition tho the original offense.
