Hello. My wife and I are planning to move down to SA, but we don't have a lot of good information/feedback about the schools so far. I have only been browsing the internet in the area a short time. We are looking for above average and high K-6 or so in the North and NW areas of SA. If you have any helpful suggestions about schools or ones to avoid, please feel free to chime in.
Thank you,

HandyIT

Avoid SAISD, other than that Inside 410 look at AHISD (Cambridge/Woodridge Elem.) NEISD (Northwood Elem) Most if not all Elementary schools in NISD and NEISD outside 410 on the northside have been rated satisfactory or higher by the state.

Hi Smuboy86!
Thank you for the helpful information. We will investigate those areas further. Can I ask you why to avoid the SAISD area? Just curious if you can comment.

Have a good day!

My own personal opinion.

Top notch districts:

NEISD
http://www.neisd.net
NISD
http://www.nisd.net
AHISD
http://www.ahisd.net
ECISD
http://www.ecisd.net
SCUC-ISD

Middle of the road:

SWISD
http://www.swisd.net
Judson ISD

South San ISD

Not as great:

SAISD

SAISD is known for having worse schools than the suburban districts, often campuses are old. PTA's are either low functioning or non-existant. Corruption is rampant in SAISD, the schools have little to no diversity, often they are 90%+ hispanic.

I think "avoid" is the wrong word to use. I was a SAISD student (grad of Highlands High) and I have a well paying job and I enjoyed my SAISD experience growing up. I'm 22 by the way so my experience was fairly recent.

The bottom line is SAISD serves most of the poorer areas of San Antonio (inner city areas on the west, east, and south sides.) and therefore lacks the funding the weathlier districts get. This in turn means less pay for teachers, less money for school bonds, etc. Schools suffer and sometimes students as well.

I'd have no problem enrolling my children (if I had any) into an SAISD school, however, given the choice between NISD or NEISD and SAISD, I'd choose one of the N's.

I agree with 210, I also went to SAISD schools from grades 1-12 (Jeff grad) and loved my experience. I'm in my 20s as well so it wasn't THAT long ago. I sometimes wonder if you are motivated to learn and do well, and have parental support, is the school district you're in going to make that much of a difference to your success? good topic for a sociological study!

ECISD
NEISD
NISD

The Alright
Judson ISD

The Not So Great

You'll must have your reasons whatever school districts are mention to exclude one of the top District in state, and top 150 high school in nation: Boerne ISD?, and number#48 city in nation to raise a family

Only one other Texas city made in the top 50 in the nation to raise a family :Sugarland.

I only listed San Antonio area school districts, not metro area school districts.
