I did this because for as long as I can remember the "south side" of San Antonio has always gotten a bad, bad rap as being unsafe, poor, ugly, etc. A majority of the time it's just baseless rhetoric and the rest of the time it's just out right false generalizing. I know I am not covering great deals of area with these pictures but that would have taken a lot of time but a lot of the southeast area look like the below pictures. Sure there are some pockets of rough areas but for the most part it's alright.

Let me just say I have no reason to be doing this. I live on the far west/northwest side but I do have friends who live on the SE side and I am amazed at some of the beauty I see and then I hear from other "northsiders" about how bad the south side or southeast side is. I also see the same thing on this forum. When a someone asks which areas to avoid the south side is almost always included. it's crazy!

Anyway, hope this changes some minds or at least opens them.

Brooks City Base area (about half a mile to 1 mile east of BCB)

These pictures depict the "new" stuff being built on the southeast side. Two different subdivisions and some apartment complexes.

shhhhh. Now everyone will move to the southside and we'll get tons of traffic like on the north. ;-)

I really like the Highlands area. It's a great community. Also the Pecan Valley area is great.

And this whole time I thought it was endless trailer parks. Seriously though, the South does get a lot of rap for being poor and rundown. This isn't true for the entire Southside and is changing in some of the areas that it is true. Sadly, there are still many places that fit the description and it looks like it will be that way for a while.

I grew up on the Southside. Eta: Southeast side to be exact. Although there is not a ton of money pouring into it it's quiet and full of good people. Since I've lived in the Northside (around Jackson Keller, Blanco, UTSA, Babcock, Redland, Culebra, Bandera just to name a few) trust me there are not areas I feel safe walking my dog in the daytime, while on the Southeast side I used to walk everywhere with my husband, then boyfriend, during the day and night and never felt a bit unsafe. Besides, statistically, more crime happens on the Northside than in the South.

probably cause the northside is twice the size as the southside thought. Also most ofth crime happening in the northside are more like property crimes then violent crimes that happen in other parts of the city more often, But I do agree with you with the SE side being a alright par of town. However this filling you get about the SE being comfortable and the NW side filling like you have to watch your back could be psychological. Cause you grew up in the SE side, you know the area well and it's home. While the NW side is new to you mentally and you feel more nervous here cause your not as familiar here then back in your childhood neighborhood. I'm not saying this is the reason but I'm saying this could be the reason.

I'd tremendously have to disagree with you about feeling unsafe in those areas.

But please, let's not make this a North versus South thread. Please.
