This is the fourth officer to be hit or killed in the last seven months. Thankfully, he's expected to be okay.

Two women are on the highway and they are hit head on by a drunk driver going the wrong way. One of the ladies calls a friend to pick her up. Her friend hit an officer putting out flares. He was drunk and had a liter of vodka in his car.

They should change the law so that the first time someone is caught driving drunk, their license is suspended for a year. The second offense, they should lose their license for five years.

Freaking pathetic, but not the least bit shocking. It's nice being somewhere that only has bad sober drivers....

And Fiesta (read: drunkfest) is just beginning.

Glad the officer is going to be OK.

I know, I know, Fiesta is about much, much more than drinking.

I just read an article in this mornings paper that leads me to believe they are fixing to lower the penalties for drunk driving. The article state that since texting while driving is MORE dangerous than drunk driving they are going to make illegal statewide with a whopping fine of $200. I guess that the fine for drunk driving will be in the $150 to $175 range. Sounds logical no?

This is getting ridiculous. I'm having a very hard time grasping how someone could think it's even slightly OK to get behind the wheel after having more than one drink.

I think we should keep all these drunk-driving threads on the front page, just so the "I"m moving to SA!" people will be duly warned. Maybe put them in the relo sticky.

Default A good idea,

These should be the laws,I believe you are right because of the risks of driving while under the influence, but will any law maker listen to you ? One year license suspensionfor the first DWI and then a five year suspension for the second offense. I do not think this is about taking the fun out of anyone's
night out at all. It is about not killing law enforcement officers and others.
Taverns and Bars business interests run directly counter to drunk driving laws.
I mean- one drives there for happy hour, imbibes only one round, and then drives away after one hour has passed
and the effects of the drink have worn off ?
I would think this is not how it works at all. People go in there and have a
few, hopefully at best, and then leave. How can law enforcement counter
these behaviors? It is impossible.
Guess this is alright as long as they don't hit anyone or kill themselves.
