Hi,
I am looking for some Christmas activities to do in or within an hour drive of San Antonio? What are your favorite things to do this time of year? Are there any fun train rides or fantastic Christmas light displays that shouldn't be missed? Thank you for your suggestions of things to do!

I always love strolling the Riverwalk at night during the Christmas season... So very pretty with all the twinkling lights hanging in the trees and reflecting off the water...

Windcrest was always the neighborhood to drive for amazing light displays and I believe it still is, but please someone, correct me if I am wrong...

I also love taking the family to Legenday Holidays at The Westin La Cantera... It's a free event and is held nightly beginning at 5pm on the 12 days before Christmas... So it's from Dec. 13 - Dec 24th... There is a cowboy story teller that tells stories, has a campfire sing along and then at the end of it all it magically starts snowing (not real snow, obviously, but more of a sudsy/bubbly type of stuff)... The kids can then go and see Santa and decorate gingerbread cookies, there is hot apple cider and huge roaring fireplaces... The kids LOVE it... We have made this one of our traditions...

Thank you for the suggestions! What about any train rides near here? Or what about Sea world or Fiesta Texas for Christmas? Worth it or not?

I used to drive with my ex g/f up 281 north thru Blanco, then on to Johnson City to look at the Christmas lights. Then hang a left on 290 west, and boogie on to Fredricksburg. After looking around there, go south on hwy 87 towards Comfort, then 10 east towards Boerne. All these little towns go all out lighting up the streets and especially the town squares. I do remember them having carriage rides in Johnson City and Fredricksburg.....the kiddos love it too. Makes a great evening/night trip. Take hot chocolate.

The Riverwalk, definitely.

Driving through Incarnate Word's campus.

And just driving around, looking at lights. (Windcrest is not fun for me, though - my God, the traffic. Ugh.)

I like to sleep

This year, though, I'll be working on Christmas. And then flying out at noon that day for family time.

Good to know about the train ride, but they are already sold out.
Does anyone know of a live nativity at a church?

My church, Oxford United Methodist, has a drive-through nativity (live).

It is scheduled for Sunday, December 19 and Monday, December 20 from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. The church is located on Huebner between Fredericksburg and Babcock.
