new highway.
Well, that's not the quite the right road number but I am pretty sure it's the location you're talking about. FM 471 actually breaks off towards Riomedina and Castroville just past San Geronimo Creek and that huge quarry out there. The road that goes on towards Medina Lake and Mico, and the one this bridge parallels, is FM 1283.

But the bridge in question is the one here (Google StreetView here).

Last weekend I stopped to check it out, and found the one marker stating it was built in 1929. Otherwise, I don't have any info on it, other than it must have been a bit of a thrill to cross when it was open given that there doesn't appear to be any significant railings whatsoever (there may have been metal poles at one point, as there are anchor points in the concrete along the edge).

Cheers! M2

To start things off, here's a photo that I took earlier this afternoon (September 23rd). As far as clues go, all I will say is that this spot is within 30 miles of downtown San Antonio, and this is a public road that anyone can visit. This spot is actually one of my favorite photo spots in the region, a "secret" spot not many people know about.

To view the photo on Flickr, including a full-size version (all the way up to 3264x2448), go here: Guess My Location Photo #1 | Flickr - Photo Sharing!

Anyone recognize this location? Post your guesses here! If no one is able to pinpoint the spot in the next day or two, I'll reveal the answer with a bit more info about the location.

And if this turns out to be popular, I'll post other "Guess My Location" photos around the San Antonio region in the future as well.

Furthermore, if ya'll have some stumpers you want to share, feel free to post them in this thread -- it's open to everybody. (Especially mystery urban/city locations, since most of the ones I have are rural shots.) But please try to keep one "un-guessed" picture active at a time, to avoid overloading the thread with mystery locations with no answers.

So...anyone care to guess?
Is this the San Antonio River or the Guadalupe River ( somewhere down stream of either one ) wait...Cibilo (sp) Creek? Close on any of my guesses? Hint please. I love your game...fun and clean.

Default That,

I knew, it was not F.M. 471. FM 1283? OK.
471 out that way has been re-routed quite a bit since I was a teen, by the way.
That is one interesting overgrown ancient bridge, so I also stopped and took some snapshots also.
It is the same spot, there is no mistaking the place, it was deja vu seeing that picture here.

I know this is a long thread so you probably didn't see the post that described this location...

Quote:
Acker Road Crossing at Curry Creek, located about half a mile above where Curry Creek merges with the Guadalupe River, in Kendall County. Heading north on Edge Falls Road (that runs between Bergheim and Kendalia), after a few miles there is a turn-off to the right to Acker Road. The first few miles of this road have recently been graded and paved, but after a while it turns into a dirt-and-gravel one-lane road. Even though this is a public road, there are two closed gates before reaching the stream crossing -- you have to get out to open the gate then return back to close it after passing.

After the low water crossing, there is another closed gate, and the gravel road gives way to pavement again. Within a few miles, where the road crosses the Kendall/Comal County Line the name changes to Urschel Road, and a few miles later it merges with Spring Branch Road, which takes you to US-281.
So since huckster got the last one, let's see if anyone knows the location of this old gas station...

I will offer one clue, it was taken the same day as my previous pics so it's in the same general area...

Cheers! M2

OK, it's here on FM 2676 between Riomedina and Quihi (click here for the street view)...

Just an old filling station we've passed numerous times on our way out to Hondo, it always catches my attention and I wish the old building could talk as I am sure it has some tales to tell!

That's a great road as there are several old cars spending their last years in the middle of a field, plus at one point about two-and-a-half miles east of here you cross over one of the small irrigation canals from Medina Lake.

Cheers! M2

Dangit! I know I've passed that building up several times, but I just couldn't place it. I must have spent 2 hours the other night driving all around the area on Google Earth. Good one!

There's some great roads out in that area, I love the backroads and will avoid the highways if at all possible. It may take longer, but there's more to see and it's a lot more relaxing and enjoyable versus fighting traffic at high speeds!

I'm gonna have to dig around for the next pic, unless anyone else has one they'd like to post!

Cheers! M2

This is a pretty cool thread. No posts in over a year. Anyone with a lot of knowledge about the area (not me, that's for sure, but I like learning about this sort of stuff!) want to resurrect it?

Default Can you guess this location in San Antonio ?

I took this photo while cruising on my old bicycle in San Antonio.

In 1849, a newspaper said " without a doubt one of
the most beautiful, if not the most beautiful, places in
Texas. In Spanish..." Ojo de Agua".
