I'm military and will be working at Fort Sam Houston and looking to buy a house. We want something under $175K and safe, low crime. Prefer not to have terribly long commute. Love trees and land and awesome food areas. I'm not familiar with area but used to live in Austin and loved the hill country

Hi there! My husband just started working at Ft. Sam (formerly at Lackland) and if we had our pick for that price, we'd probably go for the Hollywood Park area or Hill Country Village. It seems safe, there's great restaurants nearby, and not too far from Ft. Sam. Also check out Schertz, there's some nice areas around and it's in Guadalupe County, which apparently is less costly, tax-wise.

I'm sure there's lots of people here that can help. Good luck and welcome to San Antonio!

Unfortunately you're not going to be able to find anything in Hollywood Park ($300k+) or Hill Country Village ($800k - $5m). However, on the other side of the Hwy 281 there are some areas that would provide you with all of that. Probably puts you at a half hour or less to Ft. Sam.

I'm sorry, I guess that's what I thought was that area. I'm talking about directly east of 281, near Thousand Oaks Elementary School.

Plenty of safe low crime areas under 175k with some of the city's best restaraunts inside loop 410. Usually you can get to ft Sam in under 10 minutes. Terrell heights come to mind, and northwood.

I recommend the neighborhoods mentioned above along with 78232 and 78247. The commute from the neighborhoods inside the loop would be easier though.

Is Northwood right off of Harry Wurzbach near Lynn Batts? I love that neighborhood. Love the architecture.
