Originally this 200-acre parcel was just going to be another subdivision with dozens of overpriced cookie-cutter houses, but was bought by SAPAR and turned into a pocket park in 2006 with a couple miles of walking trails. The mosaic, representing the replenishment of the Edwards Aquifer and the Recharge Zone, is found near the entrance to the park.
Wow! Didn't even know this place existed! Have to go for a walk out there soon.

It's Specht's, actually! It's a big motorcycle hangout on Wednesday nights during the summer. They've got pretty good food and often live entertainment!

And Crownridge Canyon Natural Area ( http://www.sanaturalareas.org/cr/crindex.html - broken link) is a great place to hike, not overly challenging but not just a sidewalk stroll either. I used to take the boys there on occasion, and we’ve always enjoyed it. I would recommend somewhat sturdy footwear (e.g. no sandals or flip flops) as there are parts of the Bear Grass Trail trail that require a little light climbing if you take that route (mainly the northern-most portion of that trail, see this trail map). It is labled as "Level 4 and offers medium difficulty with few steep slopes and rocky ledges." It is only 0.6 miles long, but does not meet ADA accessibility requirements!

Cheers! M2

Correct - it's the front of Specht Store, located about a mile off Blanco Road and within a stone's throw of Cibolo Creek. Built in 1887, it was bought by William Specht in 1908, turned into a general store, dance hall and saloon. The small northern Bexar County community of Specht Store was centered around the building, although it never had more than a few dozen residents. Today Specht Store is a restaurant and live music joint. The nearby Specht's Crossing on the creek was recently in the news when "Rib King" Randy Goss was killed when the low water crossing flooded last year.

Can you guess the location of this historic building in a community near San Antonio, with the two-story marker showing the heights of various historic floods over the past two centuries?

It looks like the mill at the Landmark Inn in Castroville. We were just out there about a month ago.

I am stumped but also mirror M2's sentiment.

It is also always odd to see doors so high without stairs and I wonder what those markers with years listed refer to.

Those markers refer to the Medina River flooding. If you go out there to visit, you can walk through the mill and there are displays that explain how the mill worked and what those markers are for.

While you're out that way, stop by Haby's Bakery off of 90. It's worth it!
