For those who live in HOA restricted communities in SA that require you to keep your trash can not visible and out of sight from other homes and lots, where do you keep your trash can?

Our whole community which is at this point only two and half complete blocks received a letter stating that we need to have our trash cans out of sight. The builders just changed HOA's and we were never introduced or received a copy of our restrictions or covenants (we didnt even get one at closing from the previous management company). I called today and complain because I thought it was a bit rude to introduce themselves with letters like this.

So where do you keep yours? Thanks!

I know this is going to sound like a stupid question, but does your garage get smelly and stuff? And when you keep it behind the fence, did you build a little cubby for it so your neighbors can't see it? I mean we have a lid and it was one of those bins provide by waste management...its that Mr.X doesn't like the idea of it being in the garage as he works in there and we are now living in 'fear' that we get a fine for putting it behind our fence and a neighbor 'sees' it...

I think you only have to worry about it being visible from the street. I'm pretty sure they don't mean visible by anyone.

We don't live in an HOA mandated community but we do live in Converse which has the same restrictions as most HOAMC's regarding trash cans. Thankfully we have a very large bush next to the garage that hides them. We've only been "warned" once and I noticed that everyone else on my block had been "warned" too.

I don't live in an area with a HOA but I place my trash can at the far back of my backyard in a corner where the neighbors do not frequent in case it does smell. My house backs up to a greenbelt so no worries on neighbors behind me.

We have ours on the side of the garage, behind a hedge. Can't see it at all from the street, unless you're coming from the second cul-de-sac. DH is thinking of putting in a small screen like they sell at Lowe's, the lattice ones.

I do too-I wash out both of them every two weeks or so in case there is liquid residue or whatever.

I've seen some folks put their trash can in front of their garage door with the car parked in front of it. I dunno why that is popular in our subdivision but it is. I'm guessing they don't need to park their car in their garage.
