What areas of Ogden are best/safest for living? Is the EAST side near the mountains ok?

Is it best to stay on outer edges? I'm really hoping we can afford something in Layton as that seems to have everything we'd need and would fit our lifestyle great. And seems like a newer area and safe for families to live. Just houses are so expensive! Will also check out North Ogden & Pleasant View. But trying to stay open to other areas where houses might come up.

IF this job pans out, I'm guessing not as many choices in the winter. Just want to live in an area with lots of other new people moving in as well. That would make for a great common bond already, which would be great for our kiddies.

The east side of Ogden is kinda "old" money. The homes are older and more expensive than some new ones, but that's where many of the established Ogdenonians live. I gew up in North Ogden / Pleasant View and loved it! Those are two very safe and nice towns. Layton is more expensive, but is closer to Salt Lake for more fun things. West of Ogden into Plain City / Far West you will be able to buy more land and a nicer home for less.

Hope this helps a bit. Most of these questions have been asked before. Do a search for North Ogden or Pleasant View.

On the benches (foothill areas just above the city), there are foreclosures galore! Layton has one of these areas. A friend bought a house built and appraised at 450K - got it for 250K. No dumps, either! Just be sure it's on a foothill-side not prone to mudslides and double-check your homeowner's insurance if you do find a spot there. Huntsville is just up the 12th Street canyon - not a fun drive but a short one. The town is embedded with locals and newbies alike but beautiful and removed from the city. Large Resevoir with boating and swimming possible most of the summer. Morgan is up Weber Canyon with a small hot-springs resort/campground but is mostly locals.
