My family will be moving to the Ogden area the end of this summer. I have a son who will be a Junior in High School and is very active in Lacrosse. I am interested in learning more about the schools in the area as far as academics, teacher support, parental support, and lacrosse teams. We have not decided on a specific location, but the school system will be one of our major deciding factors. Any information would be beneficial.
Thank you.

What specific part of Ogden are you moving to? I grew up in North Ogden and I'm very familiar with the area. I'm not sure about Lacrosse in Ogden. I do know that the University of Utah has a Lacrosse team (salt lake city), but the sport is nothing like it is in the East. When I lived in Upstate NY Lacrosse seemed as popular as football.

Default Lacrosse in Ogden

Lacrosse is HOT in Utah right now and especially in Odgen. There are several high school teams. Both my boys have been or are on the Weber High team and they are having a great experience with great coaches. I can get you any info you want on the team and get you in touch with anyone you need. One thing you should know is that Lacrosse is not a state sanctioned school sport in Utah. It is a club, so you'll have to foot the bill. Go to www.uhsll.org for the Utah High School Lacrosse League. You've picked a good place to come to.

Weber High is for the Pleasant View and North Ogden cities. It is an excellent school with many opportunites in academics.

If you are interested in a home in that area, let me know. no advertising please
Good luck on your move. You'll love it here, we do.

It would help me to know your budget for housing and whether your intend to buy or rent.

I'll make some assumptions. You have an adequate budget to buy a decent home.

If this is the case, I'd recommend something like this. Purchase a home in South Ogden, North Ogden, Riverdale, or Roy which are all suburbs of Ogden. Ogden is making brave strides as a community in terms of upgrading housing and bringing business to the community. Still, much of the town is run down and in need of a face lift. The schools in inner city Ogden are not good. In fact, I saw one survey that said out of the ten worst performing elementary schools in the state that three were in Ogden. The Ogden School District is currently in turmoil with the district being run by a non-educator who apparently gave the school board a slick talk about how he could improve things and they hired him on a lark as superintendent. The crime rate in inner city Ogden is one of the highest in the state. Although, even there is lower than in big cities in most of the rest of this country.

South Ogden has good schools. Bonneville High School in Washington Terrace is good. Weber High in North Ogden is good. The schools that feed into these high schools are pretty good as well.

Prices on homes in inner city Ogden may seem attractive. Don't be deceived. Its not worth it. Move to one of the suburbs that I've described.

If you have other questions about Ogden, you might want to send me a PM. I'll be happy to answer them.

She said they will be renting.

Not sure what your budget will be.... but if it were me, I would go with Clinton, Or North Ogden. I think both places are your best bet. I don't know anything about the schools, but the areas I mentioned are better and safer over all. North Ogden is actually really beautiful in my opinion, the mountains right there in that little nook are breath taking. You should be able to find a little house to rent. Visit Utah News, Sports, Weather and Classifieds | ksl.com, and check out the rentals in the classifieds.

Good luck.

I went to Ogden High and I loved it, you can make the most of any school. It was great to grow up with that kind of diversity that the Ogden district has and you just don't get at Weber or Bonneville. I got my associates out of high school there as well so don't say you can't get a good education in inner city ogden, it's really not that bad just diverse.
